About Libra Communications

On screen, on page and on air, good words are worth their weight in gold. Smart marketers fully appreciate the role great writing plays in good marketing disciplines. Marketing research proves just how much the right words can affect consumer’s response rates.

Libra Communications’ principal Mia Lacy is a wordsmith. Her satisfaction in writing comes from assisting a reader to easily comprehend an idea, a brand or a story with targeted and tailored words. As a commercial writer, she writes to a specific brief or a commission.

Mia grew up at Cairns’ northern beaches on her family’s sugar cane farm. She finished her education in Auckland with a communications degree, majoring in advertising and working for national and international agencies as a copywriter. Her responsibilities included such diverse accounts as Levis, Air New Zealand, NZ Woman's Weekly, Nestle, Nescafe, Maggi and Coca-Cola. Mia established Libra Communications when she returned to Cairns in 1988.

Since then Mia has worked in both the media and tourism industries. As a commercial writer, she has freelanced for advertising agencies and local tourism operators preparing press, radio and television advertisements and writing many of the websites, brochures and videos which promote the region's premier tourist attractions. In a public relations capacity, Mia has prepared media releases, corporate communications, and has project managed special events at all levels in the tourism industry.

Mia edited Tourism Tropical North Queensland’s flagship regional magazine, the Holiday Planner, for eight years. The magazine won the media category in the annual TTNQ tourism awards five times, the Queensland Tourism Awards twice, and in 2000 won at the prestigious national Australian Tourism Awards.

Libra Communications also edits the annual 68 page glossy Discover magazine which is the major promotional tool of Tropical Tablelands Tourism. Discover has also won the media category at the Tropical North Queensland tourism awards.
